The Proposal Plans from PUB is out!
« on: February 06, 2007, 23:50 »
http://www.pub-abc.com.sg

visit this nicely done up flash website to know which waterways will be opened to you and what the proposed plans to develop them are!

This will probably answer the many queries about where to paddle in the future. Yes Pandan Reservoir will be opened to kayaking, both racing and recreational. Even SCF's boats are already stored at the new Japanese Sports Centre. Also SUP - Sungei Ulu Pandan will be reconstructed to go all the way to sunset way-clementi pedestrain bridge for kayaking. After that it will all be flora n fauna decorations. Sigh, no way to paddle to the sea then... :(
It is all just in the mind.

It seems like it is getting harder to have a decent paddling session nowadays with ABCs coming into play. There are much stricter and tighter controls and in MacRitchie, paddling is restricted to 6.30 pm except for National squad member who can train till 7 pm. What is the damn difference? Ain't they as human as us? Why are they restricting the rest but not the handful bunch?

In addition, users of the reservoir have to sign a pile of crap most probably to "indemnify" SCF or even PUB in the situation when there is loss of life or injury in the reservoir. It is not making things easier when paper work has to be done to register your craft with PUB.

ABC is a bright idea but the way PUB handles it is not making it easy for paddlers or users. With so much controls and restrictions, it is a turn off to even think about paddling in Singapore. >:(

I agree that paddling timings should be the same for all paddlers! I especially like to paddle at dawn and dusk.

Well, from the perspective of someone who has been trying to get access for the past years, I actually welcome the 'extra paperwork'. Let me explain.

Previously it was a situation of no regulation = no paperwork = no access. Now access regulation is transparent, I know what I have to do to paddle. For example, I just went to get my 1-star for reservoir access, no problem. Incidentally members of KPC must also sign indemnity form and adhere to an even stricter set of rules and regulation for private access to the reservoirs.

Aiya, just think of these rules and regulations as being there to ensure a enjoyable experience for all types of paddlers and other park users. ;)

did you guys see the PM national day rally speech about the plans for Punggol???? Exciting!!!!

So currently for KPC members, PUB gave them special concensus but they must abide by stricter rules?

I said 'stricter' in the sense that KPC members must know all the rules and regulations at each reservoirs open tious, which are different. If you are from an organizations, some rules are not apparent or you don't really need to know. There is always a coach or someone available to take charge or advise.

For example, where to launch the boat, where are the paddling zones, when are the reservoirs close, how to get out of the barrage, etc. All these have procedures or are regulated.

We also observe a stricter etiquette off and on the water, to ensure we do not disrupt other park users of paddlers.
