why would mens open be more exciting when the tertiery teams would still focus on their polite/pm cup and most probably withdraw/long-pull even if they get into the finals.

I think at least the poly teams won't pull out. Most probably the POLITE event would be before the Mens Open grand final. However, for the uni teams, it depends on them actually. According to last year's schedule, the PM Cup is just right after the Mens Open grand final. Therefore, they might pull out. If SDBA could make an arrangement such that the POLITE, Mens Open grand final and the PM Cup to have ample time in between to rest, I think all the tertiary teams will give all out in the Mens Open category. But, on the other hand, the other club teams would feel "sian" because they don't really have much to compete for (knowing that most tertiary teams are more competitive than club teams) as their only focus is the Mens Open and the corporate event.

Heard that SDBA might be imposing a fine on teams that pulled out in the Semis and Finals. My steersman (from SDBA one) was telling my team that during our training last Sunday. He was not very specific. My Team only in the IBH&C event so doesnt really affect us. But it will be interesting to see how the tertiary and the big-crew teams handle it. Anyone heard anything about this? I thought theres a SDBA guy in this forum. Care to answer?

No Issue as for POLITE is after Men Open. The mixed is on day 1 and the Men and Women on day 2 AFTER the Men Open Final and before the PM Cup.

I heard like this.

Women Open Grand
Women Polite Grand
Men Open Grand
Men Open Polite
-Break-
Women PM Cup
Men PM Cup

Minister prefer to see schools race anyway, given the fact it will likely be DPM Teo or Ed Minister Ng.

mmm but race schedules are always for show. they might put in a break now.
BUT if things overrun on the day, the break would be the buffer and the events will push on.

Wah! This forum very updated one! Haha!
That news on the fine for teams that withdraw in the Semis is still in discussion stage. Hmmm.

The rationale is to prevent unfairness. If you withdraw from the Semis, you are actually proclaiming "this race doesn't matter to me". Its the semis for crying out loud, next stop will be the finals already. You put in all that blood and sweat, go through the trouble of competing from the Heats and when you've reach the semis you pulled out. Does it make sense to you?

This is bad practice and is not healthy for the sport. For years the SDBA did nothing about it, enduring the frustrations, criticisms and mocking of many teams regarding this issue. But it has really getting out of hand. By doing so, you are mocking the organizers as well as the other teams that fought like mad to get there. Not to mentioned you screwed the other teams in your wake by depriving them a slot in the semis. Last year we had a farce of a Semi with 4 boats competing in an actual 6-boat Semis due to withdrawals. It thus became a farce and its embarassing to the sport. Why you bother in the first place?

So ladies and gentlemen, lets have a fair race. If you have other priorities, go or it but please not at the expense at those teams with genuine aspirations to compete for that event. This rule will only be confirmed by the Team Manager's briefing.

Why put the major final so back to back??

since Polite only have 2 heat and then grand final, why not place the final on earlier event that take place in the early afternoon?  or even Sun morning, let the heat be on afternoon of sat.

Before the PM cup,  why not slot in some of the other Grand Final?  Inter Corp, Inter Biz, Inter Comm. So that the 4 Uni can have a go at the Open as well.

Team like NTU will then go all out to do the hat trick of  Ter, Men Open, and PM cup!!

SDBA, please consider this option.  And I believe team wont withdrawn since the main final are really a few event away ensuring they have at least 30min of rest.

If you really want the best team for the final, give them enough time to rest.  try slot in the other final in between, it can be done right?
