“Not just a race, but also a social event”, the GD 2010 will be an enlargement to the local dragon boat race fixture. The highlight of this fun event will be for participating teams to challenge for honours with “horse boats” (these are dragon boats with a horse heads and horse tails). It will be the only local race with a carnival like event atmosphere where spectators will be treated to a range of performances, engage in fun fringe activities such as the Mr.& Ms. Dragon Boater contest, lucky draws and viewing the SIA Cup on large screens.

Event details

Date : Saturday 15th May 2010 & Sunday 16th May 2010
Time : 0800 – 1800
Venue : Singapore River
Race Distance : 200 meters

a 200m race at Singapore River. A slight mistake will cost your victory. Interesting.

Race "predictions" aren't my thing.

But I am glad that this is trying to be an event as opposed to just a race.  Something that might actually attract some spectators and such.  Bedok is such an ulu, non-exciting venue.  Teams show up, race and leave.  Boat Quay is much more fun for everyone.  Not sure how all this Turf Club stuff will work out, but it sounds promising.
We're not here to move the paddle, we're here to move the boat.

Yes, it is definitely attracting spectators with the boat capsize on event no 3.

Yes, it is less ULU in a way because its in the city area however, singapore river has never been the location for "fair" races. I am sure rowers who rowed at Singapore River for 32432542 times would know that there is an express lane and the lanes this time round are actually closer than in SRR which means, easier to ride. So, whoever wins this competition or this so called fun event isn't really a good guage.

A lot of teams under- estimated the short race distance.
With the water conditions being such plus brand new
10-crew boats, this is actually a mega-sprint event.
The narrow lanes, made necessary to avoid the water
taxis as much as possible, made wash pull (& ride to
those who know how to do it) a sure thing. You need
a steady & cool steersman to control the boat
