The National Team (Men)
« on: December 08, 2009, 16:28 »
Hi everybody,

Not much has been said about the national team so, I will be using this forum to post a little bit of information about the national team. For a start, the people in the Men's National Team:
     Name                        Current Club/School   Appointment
1   Ho Siong Chang (Damien)       Mt Batten
2   Ng Choon Chek                      Mt Batten
3   Ong Tian Ghee, Terence          Mt Batten
4   Tan Xuanwen, Jeffrey              Mt Batten
5   Luo Jingxian                           NTU
6   Luo Weining (Michael)              NTU Alumni
7   Ong Chun Aun, Ashley             NTU Alumni
8   Mohamad Faizal Bin Mokmin     NTU Alumni
9   Tan Ren Yi, Jerry                     Safra
10   Chew Wen Zhen (Zen)           Safra
11   Gan Cai Sheng Jonathan        SAFSA
12   Low Sik Hwei (Adrian)            SAFSA
13   Seow Tien Sze Michael           SAFSA
14   Sim Yun Wen, Andrew            SAFSA
15   Tan Yu Zhong, Jeffrey            SAFSA
16   Chia Yi Liang                        SIM
17   Chan Wei Xiang, Glenn          SIM               Vice Captain
18   Wong Kah Shawn                    SP
19   Gan Choon Kiat                    Sunday Dragons
20   Ong Kien Peng (Anson)         Sunday Dragons
21   Tan Chun Leng                      TP
22   Chew Zi Chee
23   Ang Chin Leng
24   Chua Cher Wee
25   Kieu Chin Wah (Bryan)                               Captain
26   Tan Cheng Hui                     Mt Batten          Mentor
27   Goh Poh Soon                                             Coach

So you can see the team is made up of several clubs/schools. You can say the national team is from the community and competiting for the community in the international region. They have a blog too http://www.singaporedragonboat.blogspot.com/ but it's very seldom updated though. Would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support for the national team. Also, to those whose teammates are in the national team, thank you for your understanding. I think it is never easy to compete for both club and country, so your understanding means a lot. Do hope everyone in the community supports them as they prepare to qualify for the Asian Games 2010.

I m sure that

for the players to be selected into the NTeam. I m sure that they have put in a lot of hard work, to fight for the honour and pride.

Neverthless, wish all the rowers all the best if you are selected :) if not selected, train hard for the next round :)

Interesting.  It also shows that it is incorrect to use the terms "Mountbatten" and "SG National Team" interchangeably, as many people do.  They are not one and the same.
We're not here to move the paddle, we're here to move the boat.

do forget M used to have many EX national.
This time round M fail to pull the current N to it squad.

Recent SAVA sprint, current N formed up PMC.
Recent SRR, many current N went under Kampong Ubi and beat Mountbatten in the CSC race.

Wow! Long-pull U seem to noe alot. Especially when it came to who are in the current nteam. Actually, I always wondered, does someone who comes from being in the nteam gives a team a better advantage? I think its not just being in the nteam that allows ppl to win medals u noe:)

SDBA should set a rule, for local races, no team are to have more then 3 National in the boat.
Who like to see Mountbatten, and now kampoon Ubi always winning the CSC races?

being in the nteam, travelling overseas for races, and coming back with the wealth of experience, i believe is the greatest advantage he can bring into any team he paddles for. as nteam they are naturally pushed through a higher intensity program and trains so much harder than other teams' paddlers - so naturally they are physically better. but i believe atthe end of the day experience counts. and if this nteam paddler is able to impart such knowledge to the team he belongs in, it'll be tremendously advantageous to the team. :)
