SDBA National Training Squad Recruitment
« on: December 08, 2009, 11:33 »
Greetings, we are pleased to inform that dragon boat will be included as one of the events in the prestigious 16th Asian Games 2010 (18-20 November 2010) at Guangzhou. However, in order to achieve qualification for the Asian Games, we need to produce a series of good results in the upcoming races:

1. 9th Asian Dragon Boat Championship 24th & 25th April 2010 (Tentative Dates)
2. Macau International Dragon Boat Race 16th June 2010
3. Putrajaya International Dragon Boat Race 18th to 20th June 2010
4. 16th Asian Games 18th-20th November 2010 (Pending qualification).

As such, the Singapore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA) will be conducting a recruitment drive for the Singapore Dragon Boat National Training Squad (Men and Women) on 19th & 20th December 2009. Please refer to SDBA website for selection process.

SDBA would like to invite all committed paddlers who dare and are willing to step forward to bring pride and glory to Singapore in the international dragon boat region. SDBA also assure Affiliates, Clubs and Schools of selected paddlers that arrangements will be made to ensure these paddlers will be able to cope with the demands of their clubs’/schools’ competitions.

For registration, please send your Names/IC/Citizenship/Clubs/Contact No./Emails to nteamrecruit@gmail.com by 16 Dec 2009. You can also direct any enquiries to that email. Only registered paddlers are allowed to go through the selection process.

*Those who have registered for the recruitment drive during the 27th Singapore River Regatta (21st & 22nd November 2009) but have yet received a confirmation email by 4th December 2009, kindly email to nteamrecruit@gmail.com to submit your registration again.

Hi,

Thank you to those who have signed up for the recruitment(Men and Women). For those who have not, do note the deadline for registration is tomorrow.

And, if you have any questions like, any alternative dates, training schedule and plans; or issues like how to explain to coaches, how to cope with club and national team trainings, please email to nteamrecruit@gmail.com. We have a group of committed committee members who will try their very best to respond to your requests or provide any assistance.

The goal, at this moment, for the national teams is to achieve good results in the coming Asian Dragon Boat Championships (30 Apr to 2 May) which is going to be held in China. The results will affect the teams' chances of getting qualification for Asian Games 2010 Guangzhou. It is not going to be easy with teams like Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, China, Thailand and Macau, all competing to see who is the kingpin in Asia. Personally, I'm not sure of the chances but I know everyone in the Singapore teams, from the paddlers to the coaches to the committee members in SDBA, is trying very hard to make things happen. And we welcome those who share the same passion and desire to join us.

For those who dun have any idea of what it take to be in national teams, pls check on how much our Water-polo team trained per weeks, and when near to race, twice per day. early morning before work and evening after work.

Please think twice, can you commit to the training programs?

Oh, I am joining in the national service in a few month times, should I join??
Oh, my school team training is taking up 3-4 days, should i join??

will it crush??

Please dun perform another NJC again .

" NJC used to send it student down to selection trial with no intention of joining the N team, they just want to come down to try their individual trial timing.  "
having say this, only a small batch of NJC joined when Nasiman is the N coach.
Ok, lets not lament about it....

Hope to see more committed and strong one stepping forward to serve Singapore.

Lastly, it will help if the thread started can advice on how much training ( Sea & Land ) will we be expecting.

I heard from a close friend who went that the standards were even to the competitive club level standards, in terms of fitness and weights. I guess the hardest part about trying out for the n-team is not so much about whether you want to do it because I guess alot of people want to do it too and they are just as well capable of doing so. It really is about whether you are willing to sacrifice the time and effort that the training requires of you day in and day out. Joining it is easy, keeping the passion alive is the tricky part..

Cheers:)
