River Regatta 2009; black horse?!
« on: November 12, 2009, 00:53 »
There's this team that went on par with the N team (mtbatten), I think its last year Singapore River Regatta by just a milli secs to take over the champion; a great show from them and they are appearing to be stronger in each races & more victorious!! Is it PLK? Wat the hell PLK stands for? Btw who is their coach and where do they come from?
Feel free to discuss about it right now!  ???

for one i dont think associating mtbatten completely with the nteam is appropriate .. hmm PLK has always been around be i dont think ever made an impact in the finals of any race. i stand to be corrected.

lets just say i dont think any tertiary would be intimidated should they be placed beside plk .. but thats just me .. i wouldnt know.

Hmm. If I'm not wrong, PLK stands for Paya Lebar Kovan. They are a community club set up not long ago I think :)

Being more of a sprint race, it is not uncommon to have teams separated by only a few milliseconds. Add to this the known bias with the Regatta race course, many factors come into play when deciding who takes home the gold. Notwithstanding, the strength and coordination of the team remains a crucial factor.

As such, it is premature to guess if a team or another will become a black horse (or otherwise) just because they came close during a previous race. The most important thing is to focus on each race as it is. Otherwise, problems like complacency, or, if we look at the other end of the spectrum, unjustified fear, will compromise the performance of a team.

U still cannot deny the fact that they were able to come close to Mountbatten, which says alot. If one is not good, all the environmental factors cant really do much right?

Somemore, they are one of the few CC teams that are consistent with their performance, and are consistently producing results as well.

Hmm... PLK, ahhh... Paya Lebar Kovan, seen them training in kallang gym before.. their ergo-machine training is quite hardcore though.. but addressing to Mr Blade's post; tertiary teams should be intimidated by all these CSC or club level team as a matter of fact most of their rowers are mature/mature looking/working/experience... rowers esp from Taman Jurong, they are tougher than they look, i think...
The fact is that most of them are working personal and if are able to have that level of commitment and passion comparing with a tertiary team, that's definitely some lessons we gota learn from them, isn't it?! As if you could recall the recent 10KM race the club level team, PLK excel, and got fourth place... if i'm not wrong. Yah... can't believe it either!! A fact is a fact; well... this actually range down to individual/team's training, are our coaches teachings on the right track?   ???

well results r out. plk got up the podium 4 times. no golds though. but i guess it's a respectable result for a club team. safra remains a prominent club team. kiyah did not feature prominently this year. otherwise tertiary teams dominated.

I have to agree that the Germans did exceptionally well this year, and truly deserve the Black Horse title.

True.. A spectacular race by all.. sometimes luck is involve too in such a race; water condition (speed boats, river-taxis), etc also contributed to it. Some teams were 'unlucky' .. DQ was high though, coxswains went to wrong lanes and much more, indeed tis year race was pretty well organise comparing to last year, hope they will keep up their good work.. :P
