Hello,

Today afternoon, went for my training after a wk break. A bit rusty to db. I finally can buck up my courage to ask questions. Is like, i begin to have the mindset of, if you wana to do it better, have to ask ppl wat is wrong and to improve.

I m a right rower. But my lifting hand (left side) is not high enuff, resulting me not able to reach out far enuff and pull more longer. I know that in order to improve yourself, you have to know where are your mistakes and prevent them from happening.

My question 1) how a person is able to lift his hand high tru out the races, be it normal or fast pace, short or long distance and pull long.

2) When we pull tru the water, i noted that we must be fast in the water. But must we pull along the side of the boat 90 degreess or slanted a bit ?

Hope the seniors will enlightened me about my queries.

Thanks

if you feel you've got no strength to lift up your hand high enough for each stroke, go work on your shoulder muscles the next time u hit the gym. but then again, the core muscles for rowing is still your back. work more on your back yah!

well, for blade angles, i personally believe the optimum angle should be around the 45 degrees  to 60 degrees range. 90 degrees, well, i don't know, but i don't think that's effective at all.

go do a search in this forum or youtube for the national team's recent outing to macau. look at their angle. i am always secretly learning from those experienced rowers around me, and i COPY how they row. hahaha.

Any one how to keep on the passion and the commitment for the sports ? I afraid that, i might not be able to sustain that long term. :( Based on the lousy skills that i have.

you don't stay committed to something, or feel passionate about something, because you are good at it.

instead, it's the other way round.

it is because you are passionate, that you stay committed, thus making you train harder, improve your skills, and become good at the sport.

so, ask yourself: "Why did I join dragonboat in the first place?"

with introspection, you will make new discoveries about where your priorities lie, and hopefully this will propel you forward in the right direction.
