American Dragon Boat Team
« on: May 04, 2009, 08:54 »
Very disturbed to find out that the American teams cage had 40 paddles taken sometime last week.  The paddles were taken along with the team paddle bag and seat/butt pads.

If anyone knows anything you can contact their captain or coach - captain@americandragons.sg or coach@americandragons.sg

Hi and thanks for the concern.  I'm from the American Dragons.

1.  Paddle Locker is at the Kallang Shed
2.  Paddles were Grey Owl and Typhoon8, all wooden
3.  Locks were combination locks and were found unlocked and undamaged

We did loan paddles and gear out from time to time to help other teams.  It's quite possible that non-team members knew or could have found out our combination.  We're obviously going to be a lot less generous now, which sucks for dragon boating in general but since this level of thievery obviously exists we need to protect our assets.
We're not here to move the paddle, we're here to move the boat.

Sorry to hear of the thievery. Its not very encouraging to see theft happening. Actually, I'm glad that you're bringing this up in the forum considering it brings awareness to teams who store their equipment at Kallang sheds to make sure that they store their equipment safely. Hope that you will recover the loss soon.

indeed. quite a few teams store their equipment in the shed.
let's remind ourselves not to take security for granted.
of course i hope this will not invoke any knee-jerk reactions that will make access to the shed more difficult.
sigh. the system of mutual trust has been breached...

The Dragonboat community in singapore is quite a close group.  It is not difficult to find out who is the culprit soon.  Just look out for people who start selling 2nd hand paddles with the same brands in big qtys.

Another possibility is some team borrowed the paddles and forgot to return, or decided to return much later.
