Summary of MR 500
« on: March 31, 2009, 10:48 »
MR 500 has ended, what are your views on the races?

MENS

NTU topped the tertiary category.

SP and RP are still neck to neck with each other as the top 2 polys.

NYP seems to be a young rising team with much potential that could topple the leaders one day.

Let's get this topic rolling!

i wouldn't agree more that NTU is still up there even after the absence in SRR 2008.

However NUS thinking that they would be making a comeback after their performance at SRR didnt impress much. Havin met SP at almost every semis and finals, SP was really the nemesis of NUS inching them out in less than a split second.

It was a good race and I would have loved to see the outcome of the NTU-Neophytes-SAFSA Mens Open race.

Looking back, especially at the IVP teams, NUS is just going thru a rough patch, and I'm sure they'll be back as strong as/if not even stronger than before. NTU, IMHO, is the strongest pure dragonboating team in S'pore.

SP, RP are still the poly teams to beat, and NP must be busy forming up their battalion of rowers to make a strong comeback at June race. NYP, for all the sprintwork training they have done, disappoint at the starts even before the 50m mark. TP needs to work alot harder too. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure they train hard, but are they training smart?

This is not meant to be a flame any of the teams out there. Just my good, honest opinion that i'm sure many out there will agree with.

YEA!
NTU are indeed the team to beat!
and Trivium, i agree that NTU are the strongest PURE dragon boating team here.
but NUS shall not be ignored, because they are one of the "BIG BOYS" teams.
and they may not have gotten into the IVP podium.
but they will come back strong in June.

SP and RP are the strongest among the POL-ITE teams.
and we shall not forget NP.
because we don't know what will they display after "hiding" from MR 500.

MR 500 was a good race, but could have been better if the Open Finals were on.
i guess we'll have to wait till the June race to see who's the stronger and better team around.

GOOD RACE EVERYBODY!
 :D :D :D :D :D

i beg to differ as far as from what ive seen id think that rp still at the higher peak as compared to sp though its neck to neck but sp seems less impressive.

hmm just what i thought based on MR500. as SP seems weakened by the stepping down of seniors.

as usual not flaming just my two cents

Indeed true on the stepping down of SP's seniors.
SP's previous team has shown and produced great results in 2008 esp with their maintenance and last charge.

RP has done well knowing their coach has left and their team spirit is still strong.

Enough of this two teams being mentioned again and again...I believe NP, NYP and TP are training hard too! It's just the start of of a new year.

NYP did show some results in getting into the Grand finals in MR 500 (Tertiary).

NP is secretly training hard!

TP's training ground. You can do it.

NTU did really well this race. Both Team 'A' and 'B' got into Grand finals for MR 500 OPEN.
SAFSA beat NTU 'A' at Semis.
NTU 'B' beat SP (2:02:40) at Semis.
Job well done by SP as I believe they send full year 1 juniors down.
Seems to me all Junior teams 'Bs' are doing better than their seniors.
Than again...different sets, different water condition, different timings.

Quite disappointing as there wasn't a final showdown for GRAND FINALS.
(Semi-Final timings)
Lane 1: NUS 'B' (2:01:91)
Lane 2: SAFSA (2:00:25)
Lane 3: Neophytes (2:00:08)
Lane 4: NTU 'B' (2:00:08)
Lane 5: NTU 'A' (2:01:69)
(Who do you think will eventually emerge as Champion? and runner ups?)

Jc teams are quiet. Lets see how are they going to perform coming JUNE race.
