First trip out on my new inflatable Kayak..
« on: March 30, 2009, 10:44 »
First trip out in the new kayak - Advanced Elements Expedition.

Got up around 6.30 and got everything ready – double checked all the gear before setting off to Punggol.

Arrived about 8am and set everything up in less than 10 minutes...

Heading to Coney Island

Next stop was the kelong

Pulau Ubin doesn’t look too far away now…

So I decided to go there..

Heading back to Coney..

Kayak handled like a dream!  Tracks well, great speed, comfortable, spacious, easy to paddle – no regrets!!  Totally different from the white water and surf I've done before!!

Didn't catch any fish - not even any takes!  Using Stump Jumpers, Aussie Jumpers and Crystal Minnows.

I usually catch and release fish, so don't need the ice box.  I could strap one to the front if I wanted to I guess.  I have one of those cooler bags from Carrefour to keep drinks & snacks in which I keep either behind the seat or down at my feet.  I've taken up most of the space at the back with the bag and pump - with it being inflatable, I can go anywhere, stop anywhere and if I was too far from base, deflate and jump in a taxi or ferry back to base.

As for the stability - rock solid.  This thing has surprised me as to how stable it is, yet so easy to control and track.  Surprisingly quick too!

As for the catch, nothing yet!  Have only been fishing with lures so far.  Hope to change that this weekend and see what I can pull up from the bottom!  Buying a fish-finder this week!!

Have you tried capsizing and see if it is easy to recover?

I've rolled it!  Took a few attempts though - need to work on my hip-flick!  It is a really stable yak so you have to throw it over.

I've a new toy now..

Just trying to work out how to mount the display!  Need a plastic disc of some sort that I can bolt the display onto and then push this into the T piece that the transponder hangs off.  The transponder needs to be removable, so I won't glue it into the T piece.
