Just saw on SDBA website: the next selection trial is on 10 and 18 January next year.

Interestingly all assessment are land-based (run, gym exercises). No mention of water-based (actual rowing). Or will that occur after the selection trial?

Singapore Dragon Boat Association
National Training Squad Recruitment 2009

The Singapore Dragon Boat Association will be holding its annual recruitment drive for the National Training Squad for men and women. We welcome all interested paddlers to the selection trials.

Dates: 10th January 2009 & 18th January 2009
Time:  9.00 am
Venue:  Jurong West ClubFitt Gym
   20 Jurong West Street 93
   Singapore 648965

Paddlers will be assessed on the following stations:

For Men:
Stations   
1.  Bench Press - 1 Rep Max (Kg)   
2.  Deadlift - 1 Rep Max (Kg)   
3.  Half Body Weight Seated Row  - Reps/2min   
4.  Dips - Max Reps   
5.  Chin ups - Max reps   
6.  2 km run
7.  Sit-ups - Reps/1min

For Women:
Stations   
1.  Bench Press - 1 Rep Max (Kg)   
2.  Lats Pulldown - 10 Rep Max (kg)   
3.  Half Body Weight Seated Row - Reps/2min   
4.  Dips - Max Reps   
5.  Chin ups - Max Reps   
6.  2km run    
7.  Sit-ups - Reps/1min

hmm... i have no idea wat their plans are. But i don't think a water time trial is necessary for the 1st selection test....

hey. was wondering if i should try out for it. i've been paddling for a year now.
my 2.4 is like 11:40, shuttle run is 9.0s, sit and reach 45, sit ups 43, standing broad jump is 230cm, and chin ups 11. yeah. think i should even bother going? anybody has any advice? thanks :)

honest opinion is

1. no harm trying
2. you will find you are quite some way off

my take is that anyone who cannot do at least 15 pullups, run under 11min, bench press at least your own body weight for reps and know how to do deadlift can pass...

1 max rep deadlift and bench is not a laughing matter for folks who don't train heavy in the gym. Improper technique due unfamiliarity with movement and loading will result in injury.

Tip for those going: get someone to teach proper benching and deadlift technique and practise before attempting 1 max rep.
