how serious will it be?
« on: November 21, 2008, 11:46 »
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL TEAM MANAGERS, TEAM CAPTAINS AND PARTICIPANTS OF THE 26TH SRR 2008

We would like to remind all Team Managers, Team Captains and participants that the purpose of having accreditation is to ensure that every participant is competing only for the team that they are authorized to.

It has surfaced that some teams have provided fictitious information on some of their team members (e.g. the name provided does not belong to the participant in the photograph; the participant has already graduated from the tertiary; the participant does not work or has resigned from the Organization, etc).  By virtue of having an event ID Tag does not mean that a falsified registration has been accepted.  It is impossible for the Organizers to be able to recognize and remember the names of each and every participant.  As SDBA takes a very serious stand on such falsifications, please note that if at any time a team is found to be in violation (whether it is before, during or after the event), the team will be disqualified.

Please help us maintain integrity in the sport so that we can have an even playing field for everyone.

Thank you.

SURASH RAMAN MUKUNDAN

SECRETARY-GENERAL

SINGAPORE DRAGON BOAT ASSOCIATION

Question : Dear Mr Surash,  are you able to define "to ensure that every participant is competing only for the team that they are authorized to. "

How many team can " one " be authorized to race in?

Question 2: As SDBA takes a very serious stand on such falsifications, please note that if at any time a team is found to be in violation (whether it is before, during or after the event), the team will be disqualified.,   DQ from?? Just that event?  or every events that that they take part in?

I believe everyone in this sport  is also looking forward to  maintain integrity in the sport so that we can have an even playing field for everyone.

If SDBA is really doing what it had promised, then this weekend we will see at least a few teams to be DQ.

With Warm Wish,
Kang Nan Sai

KNS, if you read through the R&R, the answer for your question 1 is stated in there.

that is a good move by SDBA. i think it serves as a good starting platform.

but seriously, i don't understand the need to engage outside paddlers. i believe most dragonboaters are egotistical creatures. why row for a team that is not yours? where is the pride? we all know which are the teams whose rowers do not belong to them.

the reponsibility of race integrity i agree, lies with SDBA since they are the governing authority and organiser of the race. but thats partially. not much they can do if people want to bypass the system. imagine having to check ever rower's ID before allowing them onboard, how long do we want the race to last? it depends on you dragonboaters out there.

if the medal is all that matters to them, then what's the point of joining a sport.

The disappointing point is that they only doing random check before the  team is bring to the boat.

I think many of the teams saw how clueless those part-timer are when doing the check on the ID.

For inter-corp, u must be full-time staff.    National rower or not. it doesnt matter.
Look at HP and OCBC mixed team, both got national rower.

Inter-corp team were DQ-ed due to non-working staff from the company.
