i think RP's reliance on their high stroke rate to win has, how shall i say, seen better days?

stroke wise, i think NTU has one of the best strokes in singapore. the amount of water they pull is amazing. too bad they won't be competing in the regatta, for i believe the IVP gold is theirs for the taking.

agree and disagree to the point on RP.
having a good stroke is one thing.
but i think their fitness is just not there, looking at their weird combination of paddlers(of different sizes).
but imagine RP having a team of strong and fit paddlers, i believer they'll be up again.
on the part of being overrated, i don't think they are.
we'll have to see about that in Regatta.
but now, in terms of POL-ITE standard, i would focus on SP.
coming up strong, especially their charging.
too bad there isn't NTU.

well Rp sure do have a couple of fat people in the team lol but very obvious it's not the size that causes their current downfall. look at njc, puny yet strong.

well, to be fair to RP, I think they've come a long way to where they are now. On the part where they have different paddlers, i don't really think that it'll matter. So long as there's the fighting spirit of the paddlers and strong desire to win for the sport, i think they'll be coming back on the medal chase.

Kudos to SP for coming up at the very last part of matters. They were charging way before any team could charge. around 120-130m, they were charging their way toooo the medals. It was really that kind of spirit that allowed them to clinch the medalssss!

Show's that anything can happen in a race.
Let's see what Regatta can bring us. It's next week!

guess i offended someone here.
what i meant was, the people in the team don't look like normal dragonboaters.
BUT BUT BUT!!!
it doesn't mean they've got no strength.
i don't know how their fitness is like.
from my point of view, i just think the other POL-ITE teams got better fitness because of their size and all.
i'm sorry if this has offended any RP paddlers.

boatingkid,

i dun think you intended that way la. So it is up to the reader's intepretation. For me, i feel the sizes in the team doesn't matter that much. What matter most is that all rowers in the same boat/team should be "cardio-ly" or strong enough to sustain the team's strategy and tactic game plan for the different races. It is also important that the fitness of rowers within the same team should not have too much of a variety of fitness level (i.e. not having too much extremes in fitness -- extreme fit or extreme unfit). Else it would be very tough for the boat to excel on a broader perspective.

okay sorry i don't mean to sat that RP was over rated. They are really a strong team. and definitely a team to beat for all the polytechnic teams since RP is the champion 3 times in a row. 2 POL-ITE and June Race POL-ITE.

From what i found out, all the 3 times that they came in as polite champion, the 2nd place goes to NP. right? ??? ???

and the recent sdbf 2008 NP lost to RP by a very very tiny margin and that is 0.03 seconds i think? i was looking at the race. I thought it was NP crossing the line first. It was too close. But i think it really is a good fight. KUDOS!

Do watch out for NYP also. they beat NP in the last masters Minor final by coming in 1st.

Boatingkid, if dragonboating is all about sizes. Then your team can jolly well forget about winning AT ALL as there is mountbatten who is so big and strong.
PLease don't even judge a book by its cover, everything has their strenghts and weaknesses!
