Job well done to all teams for this 10km race.

It's definitely not a fair race as we can see that all teams are using a variation of boats and not a standardised boat for this race, that's why it's a called the 10km challenge.

And for SP, GOOD JOB rowers!
fyi, they were using the champion boat and mountbatten was using the better boat (buk boat) and SP managed to stay so close to them, though using a lousier boat.

I bet if SP were to use the buk boat, they might be able to beat the mountbatten.
SP is coming up strong mann, once again excellent rowing SP!

Yeah. Good job for the teams that participated. It definitely wasnt easy for me paddling in it coz my team and i didnt practiced a lot, only once or twice so to be able to complete the race in intensity level is definitey and accomplisment for me and for all that participated. Have to agree with the 'cock up-ness' of the organisation for this. The bats were different and that could in itself may play a part in the results and there was a major confusion at the starting oint becuase all 18 teams were divided into 3 colours with 6 teams in each (i think or something like that). On the website its say all start together but on the team briefing says one colour would go followed by the other if im not mistake because we were all confused too. And many teams were caught by surprise when all went together when the horn went off. Another was that the medal wasnt on had forthe prize presentation(no idea where it went to) and that have to wait for another to get it. I really dont think ts fair at all for those victors who paddled and not be rewarded which is a formality in all sports. Its like coming to training but forgetting to bring paddle, like winning and not be rewarded in the finals. Definitely a wake up call

One team on my left were caught unguard and lost out at the start. Definitely, SP is on the rise if this race is anything but. They have trained hard and are definitely better in terms of strength and confident level and this would boost them. For a couple of time when my team raced with them, it has to be agreed that they prform better for the last 150m than the first 350m with their bring-it-up  being able t catch up a lot. And i expect them to be better when the next masters come up and definitely the signs are promising that they are trying to make a stand against the big boys.

Mountbatten were in the lead and like everybody expects (yawwwwn) they won. I noticed they were paddling rather easily once in the lead with very little effort but a rather more emphasis on the technique and the rhythmn hence the ability to pull apart from everybody and getting further away as it went on.

So, next time got 10km again, be smart. Get the Wooden Champion boat or Buk boat.

Just check the recent SAVA sprint ( using Champion boat ) &  Master Series ( Sea Gull boat )
Compare the timing for 500meter.

500meter can have 2-3 second...
1km = 5-6 second,
10 km = 50-1min.

Last year, 10km is 20 men.  the top 3 timing were abt 53min.
This year, 10km is 12men 6 ladies,  top 3 timing were abt 46min??  , 53 min can only get you a 12 placing.

why??

BOAT lor   ;D

so next 10km, if you cant get a good boat, ( BUK or Champion boat ) better dont waste time.

What is the actual purpose for this race??   ??? ::)

maybe to make it for exciting next year, can grade the team.

rank the team,  give handicap.
top 5 team will be using the 20 crew boat that SDBA are renting out. ( those park at pontoon )   ;D
next 5  will be using Seagull
11-14th placing  using Wooden Champion boat
then the last 4 team in 2008 10km will be using BUK boat

more interesting.... seriously, if always Mountbatten win.  (  full of National rowers ---  )
Do not do any good for local race.

I can only shake my head in dismay. Seems like paddlers are so starved for competition that they will spend money to join almost all the races in the calender year, even when on past records, some have not been properly organized. I can only suspect that for some people, the personal achievement of rowing 10km in a dragon boat is much more important, somewhat akin to having an additional scout badge or war scar.

i agree that the event could have been better organised and is another "fund-raising" venture.

Points to note
1) Coxwains were never given very clear instructions. Maybe the onus should be on the team cox to find out. Nevertheless, it resulted in premature turning of Ngee Ann poly's boat causing a pile up of 5 boats at the turn towards sheares bridge, when the cox turned and did not know he has to head for a buoy. No time penalty was awarded as per agreed on the rule books. I guess the organising committee didnt care.

2) Is it an opportunity to pit boats of different make? Most of the teams are using BUK or Champion boats. BUK weighs in at 250kg, Champion 280kg, Seagull 380kg. It doesn't make sense for a dragonboat race.

3) T-shirt foul up. Small issue yes but another hallmark of poor organising.

4) Umpire power boats creating massive wash for boats when they can simply move along slowly creating as little wash as possible and that is enough to keep them ahead of man-powered boats.

Just some observations.
It is all just in the mind.

nautilus, you forgot something.
the winners of the races weren't able to get their medals.
according to the announcer, SDBA couldn't get the medals done in time.
another mistake there by the organisers.
