regarding this coming 10km race
« on: September 19, 2008, 14:10 »
hi guy, need to check with you.
are there any different between SDBA IDBF boat and the different from the boat used recently for the Sava sprint??

I remember during one of the master serie , the sdba selection team was having trial before the master serie.

SDBA team A and team B used the 2 different boat, the BULK boat and one is the SDBA IDBF boat.

The BULK boat timing was better by 2-3 second. correct??

If 500 meter can make a different of a few second, then imagine what huge advantage to the team using the BULK boat for this 10km race!!

I wonder how can SDBA allow different boat to be use for the 10km race?
Is it fair??

those team that bought those lighter boat is sure smiling now...

is this the way local race is gonna head into??
Why SDBA allow team to use it own 20crew boat without checking what different the boat will mean??

Why SDBA dont use it IDBF boat for this race? And if team have their own Same kind of IDBF boat, then the team will be allow to use their own boat.

Come on, SDBA, are you sure all 20 crew boat are the same??
Please do explain why BULK boat is used to take the trial timing of the N team when you have 12 IDBF boat ready to be use on that Sunday??

If 500meter can make a 2-3 second different, what will happen if it is 10km???

DOUBLE STANDARD???

 ???

can my team use the Champion boat we have for this 10km race?   ::)

there is sure a big difference even among different IDBF boats. The expat teams who can afford the BUK (I think you mean BUK, not BULK) boats are sure going to have an advantage for the good glide in the water. It is like F1, different manufacturer, different performance.

BUK boats are made in Europe, costs a bomb and is a work of art. The standard IDBF boat used by SDBA for competition called Seagull weighs about 100kg heavier and is a poorly designed boat in terms of boat-gliding attributes. Champion boats made in Dalian, China, have the tendency to rot away in the harsh SG climate and sandy ground, but they are also lighter than the Seagull boats.

SBBA do not want to take out their Seagull boats for the 10km is simply to save on cost and manpower for the event, thus saving money, and conserve their precious investment in these racing boats. How can such conservative mentality be used to run a sport association I cannot understand.

Anyway, 10km race is not so much of a critical race in the sense that coaches will want their team to go all out for it. I guess its more of an experience, but the timing of the race interrupts the short distance training all teams are doing for Singapore River Regatta. The could have timed it after the regatta so that there is a flow in distance of races. Suggest it to be April instead?

Bottomline, if your team feels that to give money to SDBA and train for the 10km race is a pile of bullshit for whatever reason, then don't participate. My team didn't because can't find boat to race with.

I agree with you about 10km challenge to be put after regatta. because the next day will be the 5men crew challenge and after that it will be the short distance river regatta.

the participants who are participating in the 5men crew challenge who also participated in the 10km challenge will be shagged out.
