SAVA 2008
« on: September 14, 2008, 23:20 »
hello fellow boaters.
any views on SAVA?
i'll start first.
CARMARINES were insane!
did you guys see their stroke rate?
and the freestyle race.
they killed the other teams and could even smile as the reached the finishing point.
kudos to the champion in all the Men's category.
CARMARINES SUR!
 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
the 2 SDBA teams had tough fights with powerhouses like NTU.
will the university teams surpass the N-team in the next Masters?
 ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Yes i agree. Carmarines were 'ridiculous'. It was absolutely insane and everytime that they went down, especially for the 200m for the all the events they were in, everybody just cant seem to hold backthe applause and just be in aweof them. Congrats, it was so great to have them here and they totally deserve the credit. Last year was PNP and now them and hopefully for next year we can have more eams like that for the benefit of our standards.

Our local teams didnt disappoint too. The SDBA teams were fantastic in trying to kep u the gap with them. As usual, the powerhouses of NTU and NUS are a fixture in the main events and they were great in keeping the pressure for both SDBA teams. The Polytechnic teams could have been better with only RP dominating that 'poly aspects'.

But definitely, the standards in Singapore have been improving. I notice a difference in the 500m especially so from teams that have come back from the CCWC. Ever since they came back, to hose participating, the have improved greatly. One for example orth mentioning is the SPC. I always thought that though they are good, they werent good enough to be up there with the boys but since they came back, they have been improving considerably in terms of timings, and this goes to others as well such as RP, Mountbatten (which i asume some of them are in SDBA teams) and NtU. What used to be the standard average timing of 2min 10 seconds or aound 2min and 15 seconds are now so much lower around 2 minutes 5 seconds. (NTU, NUS, RP, NP, SDBA teams managed to get a lower one on one or two occasions based on the small comparisons) This can only means that slowly(or fast) but surely, we are catching up with the CamSur timing of 1.55 or 1.56. Hopefully with every tournament they all Singapore teams particiapte, they are able to lift off a second or more to improve the standard and level of competitiveness for ou db scene.

Good job to all those participated and congrats to all the winners. Lai ah!!! Kiyaahh!!!

Fred Heese coached the SDBA selection team? I thought he just flew into Singapore sometime last week.
Kudos to all the teams that performed at SAVA Sprints this year. Well done boys (and girls)!

To hut hut hut!: I really respect the way you post your comments now. I guess all Singaporeans and all rowers in this dragon boat community, including me, would like to see the national training squad do better in future and compete with those big dogs in the international arena.

the improvement is really stroke technique change, with Fred Heese imparting the C-canoe stroke, or rather, the Canadian style stroke to the N-team. That is really the way forward I think... And then again there genetics.

There are 'dragonboaters' and, there are 'dragonboaters'. They are different.

let's see which other teams will follow the N-team stroke and who can utilise it better.
bring on the challenge in the SG DB scene!

Alot of people have been heard saying they are teaching c-canoe stroke technique, but I think it is all bullshit. Learn C-canoe before trying to teach the technique on a dragonboat.
Paddlesup!
