Singapore domestic races rating
« on: July 28, 2008, 10:54 »
Hey Everyone... New in this forum, would like to have a new chat room to understand like what are the views on the local races standard... like setup, fairness in officials, time schedule... blah blah...

Actually i am a rower from SMU and if all of you had no noticed, this year Mr500 is co-organised by SMU and SAVA... so we are actually going to start planning for next yr MR500 and would value any good feedbacks from all of you so to do better next year...

So yup.. would value any feedbacks and comments... Thanks in advance

the kayaking is okay, what's wrong with that?

i'm a dragonboater, and i think the K events are quite interesting to watch too.

I am a kayaker. I just feel that the kayak/canoe events are badly organised. It is almost like the events are there to allow the change in crew in between each dragonboat race.

hey monitor lizard, thanks for the comment however it would be good if you can give more details about the organising of the canoeing and kayaking events ? Cause it is actually something that put Mr500 apart from other races as we would like to bring kayakers, canoeist and dragon boaters together and it is actually something different from other races i believe.

Probably if there are any suggestions on how we can improve on it ? We would value comments and suggestions and try as much as possible if we can do something about it so as to make everyone as comfortable as possible for the event.. (:

Perhaps you all can look into following the sprint racing rules of SCF for a start with 6 lanes racing, heats, semi finals and finals and maybe age groups categories which will encourage participation from more clubs or institutions.

If it is going to be held at LSR again next year, Perhaps, you can think about including the 200 m events.

Anyway PA paddles championship has both dboat and canoe races too.

Cheers.

hey monitor lizard, thanks a lot for the comments... actually for location wise, we are looking else where at the same time cause the event is growing and LSR might not be able to house everyone if the growth is like this yr... So we are looking into the locations...

will definitely look in to the 6 lanes racing idea... in fact we are also exploring more ways to improve the kayak races and others such as storing of kayaks and practise sessions...

Would hope to have more feedback here for anything.. including dragon boat events too..

thanks a lot (:

Lai ar.. here are my ideas, first all of, since you said you were from SMU, you can get ideas at how CCWC was organised, perhaps that is the first step of improving singapore dragonboat races. i wasnt there, but i bet it was good huh? haha..

also, i know this is includes big money, but providing tentages for all participating teams and not those who paid for tentages. i mean like tents for racing teams, and a small speaker to inform them their race is up next etc.

in the race itself, a platform at the back like what sdbf had is a good idea too... and having small buoys inside each 100m big buoys, so no one will actually try to "ride" the other.

if you need ideas on kayaking and canoeing races, you can look at youtube. see how it is done. sure got videos.

as for officials and staff. i expect more strict officials and hardworking staff that dont skive as to prevent human error, no screaming officials upon loading up.

if you want more ideas.. PM me.. i got some ideas... i just dont want to stir up a heated forum.. HAHA. but seriously pm me if you want more ideas.
Let's Rock and Roll....

Hey .. thanks a lot.. Yea been to penang.. haha.. kanna owned big time man haha.. but i guess this is world standard that we are talking about so i think it has been a real eye opener...

Actually for tentages and stuffs... really need to dig into our budget and the location that we are holding mr500 ...

And yes, we are looking into the plaform at the back (i.e. for the starts to ensure a good fair start for everyone, i guess it is a standard that all singapore races should adopt) ... So if everything is good, we should have it... (:

Apart from that, how is the time between races? Like do you guys hope to see anything for time filler ? Cause haha.. i think being a rower myself... it is really boring to wait like 2hrs for the next race... haha... We are thinking hard on this man.. like this year we got Ice Cold Bs in with 9" hotdogs and beers haha..(thou i think the beer is more for the expats and corporates) .. Any ideas on that ?
