National Schools' DB Championship 2007
« on: June 17, 2007, 21:18 »
It's here again. I have to say the B Div for DB in sg is getting better and better. Nowadays the sec sch kids can paddle quite well. It will be interesting to see these fresh blood 10-yrs from now. Perhaps by then we can match that of Phillipines.

Looks like NJ is going to flex its muscles again.  8) Next should be ACJC, the up and coming rising JC star as we all can see from PA Paddle Championship.

Things are heating up folks !!!  ;)

I was at the PA championship and ACJC did surprise many people.

Their men team was very commendable, but their ladies team were actually very impressive, clocking the fastest timing for the entire race and losing in the finals only to a seasoned NJC by a split seconds coming up from no where to beat SCDF and SAFRA ladies as well.

I have not seen ACJC race for a long time before PA. this upcoming race could hold a few suprises from them and other canoeing schools teams like HCJC, RJC, TPJC..

ACJC took part in MR 500 2007 and did not make it past semis.

the best is yet to be.

you guys only talk about A division, what about the B and C division teams? I see SJI, Bukit Panjang and Yuan Ching not bad! They train very regularly. Pity not many sec schools have dragonboat.
It is all just in the mind.

Really? Ya I remember seeing some sec sch kids paddle before. Seriously they don't look like recreational paddlers. Very serious and take a lot of pride in their team.

I think B Division is on its way up. That is good. Because there are so many sec schs around the island. It will jack up the level of competition and raise the standards of dragon boating in SG.

Let's see on this Saturday.  8)

For the girls, my bet will be CHIJ Tao Payoh. They were be B and C division champs for last year Temasek Dboat Invitational.

Come to think of it, SSC, MOE and other relevant authorities should come up with a program that allows Higher Institutes to adopt sec sch/JC. For example, NUS can adopt NJC through this program, then paddlers from NJC can automatically go to NUS upon graduation. Polytechnics, ITE and JCs can adopt sec sch. This will help promote the sport and raise the standard of dragonboating in S'pore.

just my opinion though.

That's just an invitational race. But i think all eyes will be on the division A Finals. Will NJC remain as champions? or will the upcoming ACJC take it from them?

I just browsed through the line ups for the POL-ITE. How come i dont see NYP?

POL ITE is a good idea. Seriously, if SDBA treats DB seriously, they should have classified the organizations, in this case, the polys, ITEs and universities properly based on age group.

Seriously a 22-yr old guy who completed NS race against a 17-yr old yr-1 poly freshie. Kind of like a mismatch of category. Now that we already have 4 universities, I think its about time universities form their own league, and the POL ITE form theirs. It's not healthy to keep hogging the top 2 positions by NUS and NTU. The polys don't even stand a chance ... Perhaps now that SDBF has PM cup which is only meant for universities to participate. Perhaps, SDBA can just change the tertiary category to POL ITE. I seriously think this is a better move.

I love this forum. U guys have been constructive in giving comments and feedback. Let's keep it going!!! Soon, we will be a dragon boating powerhouse in SEA. That day will come .... soon.  :D
