Rather than jealousy, I think it's more of "su bueh ki" (cannot afford to lose mentality). You have no idea how badly the best Penang club teams wanted to win at all costs.

You all think too much liao lah ... what stepping on pple's toes. haha. Imaginative leh.  ;D

Who doesn't want to win especially if its home ground. Then again we do not know which teams lodged the protests. It may not even be Penang clubs. There may be some truth in what Chase called 'unwittingly'.

It is the first time I heard about this non-drumming ruling after 7 yrs paddling. Although I do notice in all international races, the top teams really listen to the beat of the drum for timing. The drummer change the tempo and the first 2 paddlers adjust stroke rating accordingly while the rest of the crew follow the first 2 paddlers. Well, that is the purpose of the drum in the first place..., not just as an ornament during races.
It is all just in the mind.

Yup. Totally agree. NUS is definitely one of the best teams. Top 3 i would say. It's hard to really say who is the strongest. But i dare say top 3 is NUS, NJC, and Mountbatten (as we all can see from Master Series).

Cool off a bit guys. No need to get so agitated right? Sit back, relax, and PADDLE.  :D

Yup, i think NUS will win the PM cup. NTU will return the cup to its rightful owner this year.

we better not forget SCF. they might jus kick our asses when we meet them! hahas..

I think what you referred to was the recent incident involving Penang Youth and N-team men in the Malacca race. I think Merman was just asking about this issue in another post.

Well disqualified as it is, regardless what we say here, it won't change a thing for NUS. Being an an alumni paddler, I feel pity but, Im just waiting to see their performance in the coming SDBF. One more week. Guess we better start bringing the drums out for training in future.  ;D :D

Very bizarre incident. I have never thought they would come to this end to DQ NUS.

If I may ask, is it related to the incident in the Malacca race?

I agree. Being pompous are cocky does make you the target of a lot of arrows.

NUS has a Major Marketing and PR problem. they are fast, but they've stepped on so many toes in both Dragonboat and Canoe fraternity that everyone just wants a piece of them.

NUS dragonboaters should learn to be more humble and stop walking around Kallang acting like superstars and making fun of slower teams.

Personally, i think that the guys are very humble because they will not make so much noise on the boat. Apparently, there's this particular team that always sing very loudly before the start of every race, intimidating other teams (which i think they failed). That is cocky.

well i think lets not care about how cocky or arrogant whichever teams are. if they want to be, then so be it. we do not have any right to put them down, especially if the team is one of the best, if not the best, team in singapore. they worked hard for it, they won the final, they earned their boasting rights, at least until the next race.

pls dun be mistaken, i myself do not condone arrogance. afterall its bad for the sports, and people who are new to dragonboating may be turned off by such behaviour. but i think we shouldn't focus on those kinda stuffs, but instead focus on our own team, and most importantly ourselves. correct yourself, before correcting others.

anyway, starlight mentioned about some teams singing loudly before the start of their race. i think i know which team he/she's talking about. what i wanna say is, what's wrong with singing before the start of the race? im sure u guys will agree with me that going to a race after months and months of hellish trainings, its time for you to enjoy yourself and soak in the carnival. they could be singing because they are enjoying themselves, or maybe there's something sentimental about it. now what's wrong about that? im sure their songs don't contain lyrics that condemns, or specifically provokes their competitors right?

i think u're being too sensitive over there. if you don't actually know for sure the exact reason why they're singing, then please don't just shoot your mouth anyhow.

no offence.  :)

Just want to highlight about my perception of 'cockiness'. That's all. No offence though if i've actually hurt your pride or whatsoever.

cheers.
