i think its an extension of plain old sea kayaking skills that were first developed by greenlanders. check this out.

i think they even have official competition this form of sports with all its ancient skills, techniques and manoeuvres. known as Greenland Kayaking, but i dont think it is found anywhere else except for north america.
Where can I paddle? I just got out of Vault 13!
