yeah i ran the half marathon. actually i thought i was doing quite well pacing myself such that i finish the first 10 km in 1hr 6mins. However, i realised that due to ill-conditioning, my joints began to ache at about 13 km and the blisters on the foot was beginning to bother. First time i hit the wall at about 18 km, when my shin, calves and quadriceps started to cramp.

I realised later that i have been 'over-hydrating' such that i have pissed out too much sodium from my body the night before and the early entire morning before the run. (The well-learnt concept of 'water-parading' before any intensive physical exertion from army times seemed to have backfired.) With the lowered sodium level plus the huge amount sweated out during the run, i figured i ran so low on sodium that it caused cramps. This is a well-documented condition known as hyponatremia.
It is all just in the mind.

Did the 10km too! Though I didn't manage to hit the under-1-hour mark, I'm happy that I completed the race!

Shall go for 21km next year! *endorphins speaking*

I think for running long distance, you just have to take your own time. It is easy to 'hit the wall' for beginners, just like in Nautilus' case. Of course training and conditioning to run that kind of distance matters a lot. One thing I didn't know is that you can run too low on sodium by 'water parading', but I guess it made sense. I wondered whether all the supposed 'heat stroke' cases during army actually has to do with 'too much water' instead of 'too little water.' Remember the times when you have to finish one full water bottle, and then some. The medical services in the army should have known better right?
